After a successful first event in 2022, Devon and Cornwall’s first backyard ultra is back for a second year, all in aid of Bowel Cancer West once again.
Taking place at Newnham Park, just outside Plympton, on 2nd & 3rd September, this year we’ve tweaked the event slightly, to make it even more accessible to runners of all abilities, whilst still keeping things competitive.
But what is a backyard ultra?
A backyard ultra is the ultimate running endurance event, but the concept is simple. Run 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour, and complete as many laps as you can!
Each lap starts on the hour and must completed within an hour. This year, rather than signing up for a particular distance and number of laps, we’re charging one flat fee for whatever distance you travel.
Don’t let the term ‘ultra’ put you off! This is a personal endurance challenge in which you see how far you can push yourself.
If you are more competitive, the event will end, and the winner will be announced, when there is just one person left running. They will get a winner’s medal, whilst every other participant will receive a DNF medal. Don’t worry, you get a super cool t-shirt too!
