Becky and John are the duo behind the Devon and Cornwall Backyard Ultra, which they’ve proudly hosted for the past four years — all to raise money for Bowel Cancer West.
Both passionate runners themselves, John has tackled his fair share of backyard ultras, while Becky is known for her wonderfully madcap challenges — from running the London Marathon dressed as a house, to preparing for her next big adventure: running 125 miles across Nepal for her birthday!
Bowel cancer has touched both their lives, inspiring them to volunteer for Bowel Cancer West and use their love of running to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of the disease. Becky even took to the streets as a poo emoji at the Plymouth Half Marathon to get people talking about bowel health!
Every penny raised from the Backyard Ultra goes directly to the charity — Becky and John organise the event entirely for free. Their goal is simple: to create a friendly, supportive atmosphere where every runner feels part of one big family for the weekend.
There’s always a tear or two at the finish line as they watch runners push beyond their limits and achieve distances they never thought possible — and that’s exactly what keeps Becky and John coming back year after year.
